England 1849, Nellie Chapman, lion taming legend, abruptly leaves Wombwell’s travelling show. Who will fill her shoes?
Step up Ellen Blight, desperately seeking the spotlight. Ellen’s light shone brightly, but not for long. The teenager was killed by a tiger when her uncle’s show came to Chatham.
In a series of dramatic monologues, this true story is told by some of those who knew Ellen or witnessed her demise. These include her mother, the medic in attendance and the tiger who killed her. Obviously, the tiger has a very different take on the events which unfolded on that fateful night.
All the anecdotes in the play are true, though some timelines have been blurred for dramatic purposes.
